A message from Mrs. Dorman's office
Happy Monday, Bronco Families!
Thank you to our Leadership class and teacher, Mrs. Clark, for organizing an awesome dance last Friday! The haunted house was a huge hit! Many families and staff members helped and supported our students, and it is very appreciated!
Progress reports are done and will be sent through Parent Square. As previously stated, this is the grade reporting period that eligibility for boys' basketball tryouts depends on, so grades continue to be important.
Both the county and district offices of education are watching the weather this week. We are supposed to get a lot of rain. We love the water, just maybe not all at once! Please be safe and have a wonderful week and Thanksgiving Break!
Basketball Announcement
Boys' Basketball Coming Soon!
Boys' basketball sign-ups will start in Mrs. Clark's room tomorrow! Grade eligibility and sports physicals will be checked upon sign-up. Tryouts begin December 9th. More details to come soon!
Lighthouse Parenting
This idea came from an article from The Atlantic. Lighthouse Parenting is a new term to me, but I love that one of the highlights is helping your child have the confidence to work out problems.

What it is: “Lighthouse Parenting” is trending as an alternative to so-called “Gentle Parenting.”
Why it’s so timely: The idea that parenting is about solving children’s problems for them and protecting them from pain has really taken hold in the popular imagination. The emerging Lighthouse Parenting strategy encourages parents to take a different approach. Lighthouse Parents don’t jump to assign action steps, contact teachers, or take the lead on problem-solving when their kid has a conflict. Instead, they ask questions like “What do you think would help?” In theory, this communicates to young people that they are capable, responsible, and resourceful enough to help themselves. As educator Russell Shaw writes in The Atlantic, parents should remember to focus on long-term outcomes over short-term saves. Doing so, he reasons, reduces the stress on parents and also yields better outcomes.

The purpose of parenting is to equip our children to exist in the world without us. That means loosening our grip. It’s also about messaging—signifying to our teens that making some mistakes is okay and even expected. As Russell Shaw puts it, “Too many kids think that their parents want unblemished transcripts, and in pursuit of that unattainable goal, they sacrifice opportunities for growth.”
Continue the conversation:
• What was a time you were proud of your own problem-solving skills?
• What is a problem you are having right now in daily life? What would you like to do about it?
Word of the Week
Each Monday, a new word of the week is shared in our Bronco Bulletin to expand our student's vocabulary. I want to share it with our families each week so that you might also encourage your child to use it at home. This week's word is:
