Middletown Middle School Drama Department Proudly Presents: Game of Tiaras! Our students have been hard at work to bring this production to life. There will be two showings, on Friday night and on Saturday night at 7:00PM.

Attendance cannot be changed after 48 hours. Parents must provide the note, the reason, and the excuse within 48 hours of the absence and we cannot go back in after that to change a student's attendance. The state has tightened everything up and we need to make sure our data is consistent. Parent Knowledge is no longer accepted as an excused absence by the State.

Reminder: MMS is a CLOSED campus! Once you are here, you cannot leave and walk across the street! Students, you cannot go off campus in the mornings.

In Afternoon: MMS is still a CLOSED campus from 2:30-3:20 while the high school is in session. Students, you cannot leave and return to campus to hang out during this time. If you’re staying for after school tutoring, you’re in a classroom. Otherwise you’re off campus.


MMS will be giving a survey requested by our Lake County Superintendent to students both 7th and 8th graders. MMS would like to be transparent with families regarding the content. The survey is on the next Board Meeting agenda (February 12). If approved, it will be given to students. The survey is called Youth Opioid Response Survey (YOR). Hogwarts Reading Competition:

The winner of this week's reading challenge and 2 points of extra credit for their science class is HHHHHUUUUFFFFLLLEEEPPPPUUUUFFFF!!! They earned 115 points last week!

This week the class that GAINS the most AR points will get a FREE READING LOG PASS from their Language Arts Teachers!

The current overall standings are: In last place with 594.3 points is last year's champion Ravenclaw! Looks like Mr. Dean's team has lost their fighting spirit. Just ahead of them in third with 594.5 points is Hufflepuff. in second place and moving up in a hurry is Gryffindor with 690 points, and in first place, but losing ground is Slytherin with 749 points.

This week has shown that the competition is anyone's to win right now. Finish those books, only two weeks left to help your team win!


Friday 3/6

B boys basketball players please return your uniforms to Mrs. Slaight by Friday March 6th, or you will be choosing to spend your lunch time with Mrs. Sliaight. Thank you.

There is a GSA club that meets in Mr. Dean's room every Monday and Wednesday from 12:15 to the end of lunch. They would like to invite everyone to come join. This is a safe place for everyone and anyone to come be themselves without being judged. There will be a bake sale on Tuesday 2/25 at the home basketball game. The GSA club hopes to raise funds to plant a tree in the community.

All athletes need to turn in a new athletic packet for the 2019-2020 school year before or during the student’s sign-up period. Athletic packets are available in the MMS Office and online at https://mms.middletownusd.org/mms-athletics

Monday 2/24- Friday 2/28

7th & 8th grade girls softball sign ups will begin today Monday February 24th and end Friday February 28th at 2:30. Please make sure that you have signed your name on the sign-up sheet in the middle school office AND have a current athletic packet on file for the 2019-2020 school year with Mrs. Slaight. Tryouts will be Tuesday March 3rd- Thursday March 5th from 3:30-5:00. Since tryouts are beginning at 3:30 students MUST either be supervised by a teacher until 3:10, or leave campus and then come back at 3:10 to get ready for tryouts. Students will need to wear long pants, and cleats with plastic spikes only. Any questions please see Mrs. Slaight. Thank you!

Community Service forms are available in the MMS Office and online on our school’s website. Community service is not mandatory for middle school students, but we do honor those students who have completed 10 or more hours during their middle school career at 8th grade promotion. Students may not receive payment for their time, nor can their parent sign off on their form unless cleared prior by the office. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Sam in the office at sam.dean@middletownusd.org. Community Service forms are due to the office by Friday, May 15th!


Friday, December 20

8th Graders: Participation in the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony and Dance is based upon student academic performance. Any student receiving an F grade at the semester in ANY course during their 8th grade academic year will not be permitted to participate in either the 8th Grade Dance or the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. Students must also be in good standing with the school and not be on the non-privilege listed or not suspended.


Monday, February 24

Baby pictures are due NO LATER than February 14, 2020 for 8th grade students. Students/Parents: you can email Ms. Cia, Mrs. Sabatier, bring in your photo for us to scan, or you can upload your photo on our website! Questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Wednesday, 9/4

100 Parents Strong! Help us help our school. For $10 a month let’s band together to support our teachers. Our teachers are constantly using their own limited funds to purchase classroom supplies, or our students have to go without. This is our chance to give back. For $10 a month you can help support 2 teachers (one 7th and one 8th grade) for classroom materials, supplies, and/or necessities. Your donation will mean so much to our teachers, and that will help our students excel this year. Please join us in supporting our teachers because together we can be 100 Parents Strong!

MUSD policy does not allow any medication to be given at school, including "over the counter" medication, without having a Physician's permission note on file.Parents should prepare for the "occasional headache, etc." by having their Student's Physician fax a note to the school if they would like the school to be able to administer medication. Notes are good for one school year.Student's are NOT allowed to carry any medication at school without permission from the School Nurse.

We will no longer be dispensing prescribed OR over the counter medications (Tylenol, ibuprofen, benadryl, etc.) without a letter signed from parents and PHYSICIAN. We can no longer call parents and get verbal over the phone permission. If a student is sick with a fever, requires benadryl for an allergy, etc. then without a physician note the student either needs to be picked up ASAP or the parent can come self administer it themselves. Each student must have their own labeled bottle in the original container that we can store in the LOCKED medicine cabinets at each site. We can no longer provide the medications at each site. Once A Week Take A Peek-Fight back against head lice! Use proper detection comb to trap head lice.

If head lice are spotted, take a close look at all the family, including yourself, and ask close family and friends to check as well. Inform the school.

Should your child stay home?

Check your child for head lice on a weekly basis and treat straight away when live lice are found. We do have a NO NIT policy, once your child has no live lice or nits they can attend school, child care and all other activities as usual. Please take your child to the office to be checked by staff. If nits or live lice are found your child will have to return home with parent/guardian. Please check your child’s head for head lice weekly. If we all work together we can eliminate the problem quickly and prevent the spread to other students.
