Message from the Principal

Hello MMS Families,

Welcome back from our Holiday Break. I hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and friends and I hope everyone was able to enjoy some rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Thank you to all our students and staff that put in the work and effort during our first semester.  The first half of our year went well and I am looking forward to our second semester.

I would like to also point out that I am a bit concerned about a rising amount of anxiety and stress among some of our students.  The social media exchange between students can lead to lasting negative effects that are counterproductive to their education. Please communicate and reemphasize with your children regarding the importance of using social media as a positive social media device.

We just completed two different programs to support academic student development and their social development. Student Reach was instituted in our 8th grade Social Studies class for a 12 week program and emphasized coping skills, positive relationship building, and giving students the power to not give into peer pressure when it comes to drugs and alcohol.  We also completed Project Alert with the 7th Grade Language Arts class which emphasized similar topics.  Student Reach does go deeper into those subjects as needed for 8th grade and the development of their personal relationships.

Our girls’ and boys’ Basketball season are in full swing! Our girls’ teams just finished up their regular season and are poised to make a run at the Lake County Championship on January 24-27 in our home gym. The boys’ teams are just starting their league season and have had some great games in early tournament play.  The Boy’s Lake County Championship will take place at Mountain Vista on February 21-24.

Our Winter Formal dance will be Friday, February 9th from 7-9PM. The theme of the dance is A Night under the Stars. As time gets closer, please stay tuned for more information.

Finally, a BIG thank you to our Leadership and Safe School Ambassador Students who have worked hard to make MMS and our school culture a great place to learn.
